  2.                    On Line IETF Information
  3.  
  4. The Internet Engineering Task Force maintains up-to-date, on-line
  5. information on all its activities.  This information is available via
  6. FTP and Email file servers.  Procedures for retrieving the information
  7. are described below.

  9. The IETF Directory
  10.  
  11. Below is a list of the files available in the IETF Directory and a
  12. short synopsis of what each file contains.
  13.  
  14. Files prefixed with a 0 contain information about upcoming meetings.
  15. Files prefixed with a 1 contain general information about the IETF.
  16. Working Group charters and minutes are in sub-directories under the
  17. working group acronym.  Retrieve and view the 1wg-summary.txt file for
  18. a list of working groups and their acronym.

  21. FILE NAME
  22.  
  23. 0tao.txt                 This file contains ``A Guide for New Attendees
  24.                          of the Internet Engineering Task Force'',
  25.                          RFC1391.
  26.  
  27. 0mtg-agenda.txt          The current Agenda for the upcoming IETF
  28.                          meeting, containing scheduled working group
  29.                          meetings, Technical Presentations and Network
  30.                          Status Reports.
  31.  
  32. 0mtg-at-a-glance.txt     The announcement for the upcoming IETF meeting,
  33.                          containing specific information on the
  34.                          date/location of the meeting, hotel/airline
  35.                          arrangements, meeting site accommodations and
  36.                          meeting costs.

  38. 0mtg-rsvp.txt            A standardized RSVP form to notify the
  39.                          Secretariat of your plans to attend the
  40.                          upcoming IETF meeting.
  41.  
  42. 0mtg-sites.txt           Current and future meeting dates and sites for
  43.                          IETF meetings.
  44.  
  45. 1id-guidelines.txt       Instructions for authors of Internet-Drafts.

  47. 1ietf-description.txt    A short description of the IETF, the IESG and
  48.                          how to participate.
  49.  
  50. 1wg-summary.txt          A listing of all current working groups, the
  51.                          working group Chairs and their email addresses,
  52.                          working group mailing list addresses, and where
  53.                          applicable, documentation produced.  This file
  54.                          also contains the standard acronym for the
  55.                          working groups by which the IETF and
  56.                          Internet-Drafts Directories are keyed.

  58. 1wg-charters.txt         A single file containing an abbreviated version
  59.                          of all the current working group charters.
  60.  
  61.  
  62. Working groups have individual directories dedicated to their
  63. particular activities.  The directories contain the charters and
  64. meeting minutes for the group.
  65.  
  66. Minutes of Birds of a Feather (BOF) sessions and area summaries of the
  67. IETF meetings are grouped into directories by meeting.  The directory
  68. names are of the form YYmmm, i.e.  92mar for the reports of the March
  69. 1992 meeting.  These directories do not include the minutes of the
  70. working group meetings.

  72. When using FTP, the ``cd'' and ``dir'' commands will permit you to
  73. review what working group files are available and the specific naming
  74. scheme to use for a successful anonymous ftp request.

  76. The Internet-Drafts Directory
  77.  
  78. The Internet-Drafts Directory has been installed to make available,
  79. for review and comment, draft documents that will be submitted
  80. ultimately to the IAB and the RFC Editor to be considered for
  81. publishing as RFC's.  These documents are indexed in the file
  82. 1id-abstracts.txt in the Internet-Drafts Directory.  Comments are
  83. welcome and should be addressed to the responsible person(s) whose
  84. name and email address are listed on the first page of the respective
  85. draft.

  87. FILE NAME

  89. 1id-abstracts.txt        This file lists the current Internet-Drafts and
  90.                          their pathnames.
  91.  
  92. 1id-index.txt            This file contains an abreviated listing of
  93.                          Internet Drafts.  This contains only the document
  94.                          title, the filename and the posting date.
  95.

  97. the file 1id-guidelines in the ietf directory, ``Guidelines to Authors
  98. of Internet-Drafts''.

  100. The IESG Directory
  101.  
  102. The IESG directory contains the minutes of IESG meetings and regularly
  103. updates status report on protocols in the standards track.

  106. FILE NAME
  107.  
  108. 1protocol_actions.txt    This file contains a list of protocols
  109.                          currently under consideration by the IESG.
  110.  
  111. 1old_standards.txt       This file contains a list of Proposed and Draft
  112.                          Standards elegible for advancement.

  114. The minutes are contained in files named with the pattern:

  120. for the minutes of the meeting held on November 10th, 1992.

  127. IETF Information is available by anonymous FTP from several sites.

  137.       The Internet-Drafts on this machine are stored in Unix compressed
  138.       form (.Z).

  141. To retrieve this information via FTP, establish an anonymous FTP
  142. connection, then Login with username ``anonymous''.  Use your email
  143. address as the password.  When logged in, change to the directory of
  144. your choice with one of the following commands:

  150. Individual files can then be retrieved using the GET command:

  160. retreive a file mail a request:
